We
suggest that the polishing filtration of cognac beverages before filling should
be implemented as a two-stage filtration using cartridge filters. The
prefilter/final filter combination increases reliability of the process and
ensures maximum capacity, a long service life and economic operation of the
whole system.
Technofilter

The
Optimum system is composed of high-efficiency pleated depth filters made of
polypropylene and glass microfibre and features low cost, an extended service
life without reconditioning and a high retention capacity for microparticles
0.9 μm or more in size. The filter elements display superior wettability and
inertness with regard to alcohol-containing liquids. They can be operated at
low differential pressures. They impart good transparency and brilliance to the
beverages.
The
Elite system is composed of the high-efficiency pleated glass fibre depth
prefilter EPV.STs (ЭПВ.СЦ) and the high-capacity PES
membrane EPM.PS (ЭПМ.ПС) having 99.9% retention efficiency of 0.45 (0.65) μm particles. The
surface mechanism of particle retention used by the membrane filter elements
fully rules out penetration of retained particles into the filtrate. Highly
selective membrane filters impart to the cognac beverages a special brilliance
and a noble colour, contribute to the development of an exquisite flavour and
additional tinges, considerably increase the filling stability.

Stabilization
of cognac beverages
Stabilization
of cognac beverages by removing excess amounts of metals (Ca, K, Fe, Cu, etc),
that result in haziness and lower filling stability, is carried out using
EPSF.T (ЭПСФ.Т) cartridge sorptive filter elements. The
medium used in EPSF.T (ЭПСФ.Т) filter elements is a
special cation exchange resin. The medium offers high capacity and increased
radiation, thermal and chemical stability. The sorbent is insoluble in water
and solutions of hydrochloric and nitric acids. It can be used in water-organic
environments, including alcohols and ethers (esters), as well as in presence of
strong oxidizers and deoxidizers. EPSF.T
(ЭПСФ.Т) filter element is a "minicolumn" having the inner core and the outer
shell both made of polypropylene, between which cation exchange resin is
filled. The direction of liquid flow in the element is longitudinal. The
elements are sealed with melted polypropylene at the butts. The elements can be
250, 500, 750 or 1000 mm high. They fit all types of filter holders.
Recommended filtration rate is 20 to 40 l/hour per 250 mm high element. Service
life depends on initial concentration of metals and pH of the environment.

Filtration
systems
On
customer's request, Technofilter produces manually or automatically controlled
systems UPF.R or UPF.A (УПФ.Р or УПФ.А) on
the basis of NEW series multicartridge filter holders, designed for various
flow rates (0.5 to 16.0 m3/hour or more). Technofilter designs,
fabricates and assembles the systems in accordance with individual requirements
of the customer.
The
systems are compact, mobile and easy to operate. They can be installed
permanently on a specific position, on a frame or on a mobile carriage. The
systems consist of several filtration units, are completely assembled (pumping
unit, measuring equipment, control valves, piping, etc) and are ready for
operation.

before filling enjoy special popularity with customers at distillery and
wine-making plants.
The
standard system is based on a 2-stage filtration concept. The systems can be

systems vary in the set of components (selected options) and the degree of
automation. Everything depends on the beverage to be filtered and individual
requirements of the customer.
